3.1 Inviting speakers

Dear Professor Kawasaki,

Invitation In light of your renowned research and your contributions in the field of GRIN polymers, we would like to formally invite you to serve as an Invited Speaker at the upcoming Grin Polymer Materials Symposium. Place and time of eventThis symposium is to be held at Union Chemical Laboratories (Hsinchu, Taiwan) on March 15, 1994. Lecture topic We hope your lecture will include a discussion of trends and current developments in GRIN POF, GRIN LENS, and backlight plate.

Compensation We will provide a roundtrip airfare ticket and accomodations. I advise you to stay here for one week (if at all possible) so that you can enjoy some of the sights that Taiwan has to offer. Please advise us of your flight number so that we can meet you at the airport.

What the speaker should prepare Please send us your lecture title and outline, along with related handouts, before February 28, 1994. We will then have a sufficient amount of time to make copies and appropriate arrangements. I also need your curriculum vitae, with contents to include: NAME, DATE OF BIRTH, PLACE OF BIRTH, NATIONALITY, MARITAL STATUS, ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS, CURRENT SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES, OTHER SCIENCE-RELATED ACTIVITIES, AND SELECTED PUBLICATIONS.

3.3 Inviting a seminar speaker

Dear Dr. Chang,

How you came to learn of the potential speaker We are pleased to hear that you will be returning to Taiwan next month. Dr. Lin of ABC Company gave us your curriculum vitae, which shows you to be an expert with a solid background and rich experience in silicone technology. Your organization's interest in the person's field This is one of the fields we at Union Chemical Laboratories (UCL) are highly interested in developing. Invitation Therefore, we would like to invite you to give a talk at an upcoming seminar that will focus on silicone technology. This seminar is to be held at UCL on December 23. Topics to be covered at the seminar The seminar will focus on four topics: (1) the chemistry of silicone, (2) the manufacturing of commercial silicone resin/rubber, (3) the processing technology of commercial silicone compounds and (4) the application of silicone compounds. Suggest topics for the speaker to cover We think that you would be the most appropriate speaker for topics (1) and (2). The other topics, (3) and (4), will be covered by two experts from ABC Corporation.

3.4 Inviting a seminar speaker

Dear Mr. Lin,

We are planning a seminar on Conductive Plastics for Anti-static/ESD Applications, which will be held in Hsinchu on April 16. This seminar will focus on channels of communication between IC assembly houses and IC container manufacturers. The properties, application and technology of conductive plastic compounds will also be discussed.

We have learned that you are ABC Corporation's agent in Taiwan. We would be very pleased if you could participate in this event. Perhaps you could also recommend a speaker, preferably an engineer with relevant experiences, who could discuss the properties and technology of highly conductive carbon blacks (e.g., the KetjenBlack series)and carbon black applications.

3.5 Speaker invitations (a shorter version for foreign travel application purposes)

This is an official invitation for three ABC Corporation specialists, Mr. Smith, Mr. Jones, and Ms. Lin, to give a CGMP seminar and to visit local bulk pharmaceutical chemical plants. The duration of the seminar is three days, with two days scheduled afterwards for plant visits. ABC's specialists will arrive in Taiwan (R.O.C.) on 4/25/1993 and return on 5/1/1993.
